Volcanoes, Toucans, Beaches, and More

These past two weeks have been very busy but super fun. Here are some highlights:

Volcán Poás
On Friday the 21st, my friends Colleen, Emily, Sarah, and I went to see a volcano. Poás is only about an hour bus ride in total so it was pretty easy getting there. Well maybe not that easy.... We were standing at the bus stop in our town and after about ten minutes we realized that we had been standing at the wrong stop. So we start walking to the stop around the corner when we see the bus that we need to get on driving away. So of course we chase the bus down until we finally get on. We were a little unsure where to get off so Emily and Sarah stood at the front trying to ask the bus driver what stop would be best. Colleen and I sat in the back. After a little time, we see Emily and Sarah walking up to the front so Colleen and I started to get off the bus too but we went off the back door. We got off the bus and then looked around and.... Emily and Sarah weren't there. Emily started running down the aisle of the bus telling us to get back on so we hopped back on the back door. Then the bus driver yelled at us to come up to the front and he made us pay again. So embarrassing. But funny too. So we finally got off the bus at the correct stop and made it to the next bus stop where we took a bus to the volcano. We were literally the only four who spoke Spanish on that bus but the bus driver didn't speak any English. So the four of us had to tell everyone else what was going on the whole time. But eventually we made it to the volcano. AND we even qualified as residents which scored us an $18 discount :) The volcano was really cool. The day after we went there was a pretty big explosion!

La Paz Waterfall Gardens
The volcano didn't take that long to do so we went to La Paz Waterfall Gardens after. It was only about 20 minutes away. This place was SO COOL. We got to hold toucans, see monkeys, look at the waterfalls, and more. It was one of my favorite things I've done so far.

Teaching English
I've started teaching English!! Last week I taught a beginner's class with my friend Emily. It was so fun and the kids are so cute! I have also started going to an English institute every Tuesday with my friend Colleen to help out with activities there. The teacher is Costa Rican so she loves to get our opinions on how we would say certain things. That class is super advanced and sometimes I don't even know what she's talking about when it's the really advanced grammar.

Beach
This week my friend Colleen's mom and younger sister are visiting. They had plans to go to the beach for a weekend and invited me to come along! We went to Playa Blanca which was the most beautiful beach I have ever been to. The sand was white and the water was so blue and clear. It was a short trip the beach but definitely a fun one!

Field Trip #1
On Sunday we had our first field trip and it was through our Costa Rican History class. We went to Guayaba to look at old churches and other ruins. It was kind of interesting but it was so hard to pay attention because we had to be there at 6 AM and we were all exhausted. But at least there were some pretty views!

How we all felt during the field trip....

I'm definitely starting to adjust to everything here and I think my Spanish is really improving. I'm starting to feel a little homesick but luckily my parents and Scott will be here in three weeks!!
