My family came!! Yay!
The week of March 24th was a pretty average week. I just went to school and hung out with friends. Nothing too exciting. On Thursday, I was supposed to teach English again but the class was cancelled because all it was the week of standardized testing for the students. Instead, we had a little meeting to discuss how we could make the classes better. It was actually really fun and we came up with some really cool ideas that we will hopefully be able to start doing.
On Friday, my friends Colleen and Emily came over for a movie/ice cream night :)
On Saturday, my family came!! They came for Scott's spring break. Once they got here, my host dad and I picked them up from the airport and we took them to the market that happens once a week in Heredia. We got a bunch of tropical fruit for them to try. YUM And my family brought a bunch of fun gifts for my family and I. More YUM
Later that day, I took them to my university to show them around. Then we got to go to my host family's house for dinner! That was a little exhausting for me since I had to translate during the entire thing. But it was really cool for both of my families to meet. And I'm sure my real family feels a little better about me being here now that they've seen how awesome my host family is.
On Sunday, we went to Volcan Arenal. It was gorgeous. We made a couple stops on the way and our tour guide told us everything we didn't want to know about Costa Rica. Seriously, he didn't stop talking from 7 AM to 2 PM. Not an exaggeration. And he said everything in English and then in Spanish so I go to listen to everything twice.
We stopped to see the volcano on the way and then we went to a resort. It was so nice. We had an incredible view of the volcano and there were natural hot springs everywhere. And a swim up bar. And a water slide. It was super fun. And the view was absolutely breathtaking.
On Monday, Scott and my dad went ziplining and my mom and I got pedicures, had lunch at the hotel, and hung out by the pool. A very relaxing day, and I got to miss class :)
Tuesday & Wednesday night they all went to the beach while I had to stay here and go to school since I had an exam on Thursday morning. On Tuesday, I went to another school to set up more English teaching. It's an elementary school and all of the kids take English. However, they don't have a teacher for the preschool so I will now be going in every week to teach them English. They are so precious! I went in to meet them for the first time and they all attacked me with hugs. I'm so excited to have this opportunity.
On Friday, we went to La Paz Waterfall Gardens. I had already been there but it was so cool that I wanted to show my family too!
It was so fun having my family here to show them what I do everyday! And now they understand why I love this country so much. It's just so beautiful.
